An important source of emissions in many rapidly motorizing cities in the Philippines are gasoline-powered tricycles. In 2014, the government of Pasig, Philippines implemented a project in 2014 to replace 26 units of gasoline-powered tricycles with electric tricycles. The city government provided support to replace the gasoline-powered tricycles through zero-interest loans and the tricycle operators were required to turn over old units. The end result of the project were modest reductions in air pollution and greenhouse gases.
